Tasmania on course for a first Group success in Prix Minerve

While the Prix Jacques Le Marois may take centre-stage on Sunday, it is nonetheless well backed-up by three group races and a listed.

The Gr.3 Prix François Boutin, open to all 2 year-olds and run over a straight 1400m, promises to be another interesting France v Britain & Ireland contest. Won in 2022 by Charlie Appleby’s Mysterious Night, it would be no surprise if stablemate Majestic One secured the prize 12 months on, considering how well he opened his account at Doncaster in June. Of the three French colts lining up, Kumite was supplemented to the race, Grey Mad has won two of three starts to date, and Fabre’s Evade makes his first appearance since winning on debut.

Later in the afternoon, 3 year-old fillies will negotiate the 2500m of the Gr.3 Prix Minerve, the last three editions having been won by horses trained in the UK. Willie Haggas’s Crack Of Light will endeavour to keep the streak going, while the Irish pair of Scarlett O’Hara and Shamwari will be seeking to end it. On the French side, there will be interest in Engaliwe and Perama, however most of the attention will be on Francis Graffard’s Tasmania, who finished 3rd in the Prix de Diane last time out, but who has never run beyond 2100m.

Last Gr.3 of the day is the Prix Gontaut-Biron, a competitive 2000m event for 4 year-olds and over, and this running should prove no different. MontyBolthole, and Kertez, will garner significant support, and there will be a certain amount of interest in the Eastern European duo of Rex Of Thunder and Zariyannka. All eyes though, will be on 2022 Prix de l’Opéra winner Place Du Carrousel who has not been seen out since placing 5th in the Prix Ganay during the spring.
