Big names on display at Vincennes

Idao De Tillard the standout in Prix Louis Jariel

A feast of high-class racing is set to take place on Saturday at Vincennes, with no fewer than seven group races on the card. The first three in each of the five Gr.2 Critérium contests, all run over 2175m, will earn a berth to the Gr.1 festival at the same venue on 17 September.

Three year-old fillies kick off proceedings in the Prix Reine du Corta, with Kana De Beylev and Kalamity D’Héripré set to do battle, with the former looking the best bet. The less-experienced Kalmia Perrine faces a test but has been highly impressive lately and will be in with a shout.

In the colts’ equivalent, the Prix Abel BassignyPhilippe Allaire unleashes his dual Gr.1-winning Koctel Du Dain following a convincing comeback at Enghien. Unlikely to be a walk in the park, he will come under pressure from King Opera who has beaten him before. Kanada is the only other colt that could separate these two.

It is a more open affair in the 4 year-old fillies event, Prix Paul Leguerney, but the ever-dangerous Juliet Papa Bravo is still preferred to the Abrivard’s Just Love You who will be no pushover if behaved.

Four year-old colts vie for Prix Phaeton glory, but they will all have to out-trot Jean-Michel Bazire’Jushua Tree. Twice runner-up to him recently, Jack Tonic represents the main threat. Josh Power and Just A Gigolo are also in with a shout.

Reserved for 5 year-old entires and mares, Thierry Duvaldestin’s Idao De Tillard is very much the standout in the Prix Louis Jariel, and can make this his own if Clément keeps him trotting. Closest danger will come from Idéal Du Pommeau, who made a thumping comeback at Vichy, and Idéal Ligneries who is like a horse reborn this year.
