Preview: Prix Murat
10 April 2021
We look at the runners for the G2 Prix Murat (4400m) at Auteuil on 10 April including Docteur de Ballon, Ajas and Feu Follet …
Docteur de Ballon
Docteur de Ballon is the reigning G1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (6000m) winner and makes his seasonal reappearance in a small, competitive field. His form from the end of last season is superior to his rivals and Feu Follet finished behind him in both the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris and the G1 Prix la Haye Jousselin (5500m). The only negative would be a lack of race-fitness compared to opponents.
Ajas is an up and coming steeplechaser with an excellent recent record, having finished in the top two on all six starts in 2020. He achieved a career best when scoring by three quarters of a length in the G3 Prix Troytown (4400m) at Auteuil in March and will have the benefit of race-fitness.
Feu Follet is a competitive horse at the top level and chased Docteur de Ballon home in the two feature races at the end of last season, the G1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (6000m) and the G1 Prix la Haye Jousselin (5500m). He started the new campaign with a hard-fought win in the G3 Prix Robert de Clermont-Tonnerre (4400m) and will be primed for a battle with his old adversary.
Poly Grandchamp is a familiar face in Group races and has an enviable each way record, with twenty-one placings from thirty five career starts. Although he is unlikely to win this, his recent second in the G3 Prix Troytown (4400m) could be a form-line to follow.
Ever Forget Me
Ever Forget Me is not used to this level of competition and will be looking for a clean round of jumping after a fall in a handicap at Nantes. He has won Class 1 conditions contests in the past but recent form suggests he will struggle.
Eddy de Balme
Eddy be Balme may have finished fifth in the G3 Prix Robert de Clermont-Tonnerre (4400m) behind Feu Follet but he was beaten less than three lengths at the line and could be an each way prospect. He ran well when second in the G3 Grand Prix de Pau (5300m) behind Ajas prior and cannot be dismissed.
WIN – DOCTEUR DE BALLON
DARK HORSE – EDDY DE BALME
