Big names highlight Enghien card

Jiosco De Phyt's

Some serious trotters will be making their way to Enghien tomorrow, Saturday 5 July, for a 9-race card featuring a trio of Gr.3 harness events.

Getting proceedings under way is the Prix du Louvre, pitting 4 and 5yo over 2875m, and the unsurprising attraction is Gr.2 second, and authoritative Gr.3 Prix RMC winner, Jiosco de Phyt’s. He simply thrives with Eric Raffin, but Philippe Daugeard’s Jet Express has been notably eye-catching lately and it would be no surprise to see him finish in the mix. Other players include the Italian Desiderio d’Esi, who has been entrusted to Alexandre Abrivard, the improving Just A Midi, and Géricault who sports a new configuration.

For 5-11yo, the Prix de la Manche covers the same distance and has attracted some battle-hardened individuals, with Harley Gema very much in focus given the ease with which she won her last two starts, and Benjamin Rochard will be justifiably optimistic about the hat-trick. After three consecutive provincial Gr.3 victories, Igrec de Celland is an obvious danger, with Gaspar d’Angis barefoot and never to be ruled out of an event like this with Eric Raffin reining. Fonzy d’Héripré has been impressive this spring and steps up in class with every chance of making up for his disappointment here last time out.

Race 7, the Prix de Rome is a 2150m mobile start for 3yo. Sébastien Guarato’s Italian import, Frank Gio, has been quite the revelation at Vincennes, however compatriot Ferahan As gave him a run for his money in the Gr.3 Prix de Gien last month and will be dangerous if Mario Minopoli Jr successfully navigates the start. Largo De Castelle will appreciate the dip in category, while stablemates Little Brown and Luna Nova Gwen will be competitive.
