2022 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner Erevann is back in action this Monday at Saint-Cloud

The run of good races continues in Paris on Monday at the traditional 1st May meeting at Saint-Cloud, with a pair of group events taking centre stage, the Gr.2 Prix du Muguet and Gr.3 Prix Greffulhe.

Won by some fine horses in recent years, such as Persian KingPlumatic and Recoletos, the Muguet (1600m, 4+) has drawn a small field of seven but there is nevertheless considerable talent on view, and Erevann’s presence helps to make the case. Winner of his first three before coming third in the Gr.1 Prix Jacques le Marois at DeauvilleJean-Claude Rouget’s colt ended last season with a convincing Gr.2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein victory. He makes his racecourse comeback on Monday as pundits debate his place among the best of European milers.

Taking him on include TribalistThe Revenant and Facteur Cheval, respectively first, second and third in the Gr.3 Prix Edmond Blanc on 1st April. The remaining trio, Rosacea, Fort Payne and Fire Of The Sun appear to be facing a stiffer test.

Restricted to three year-olds, the Greffulhe has attracted just five colts. Recognised as the final springboard to the Prix du Jockey-Club, but also an excellent prep for the Grand Prix de Paris, as Onesto proved last season, the 2100m event will see Ballydoyle’s Prix La Force third, Greenland, take on four locals. Nicolas Perret’s gelding, Harry Way, is being prepared for a campaign abroad and his fine Gr.3 Prix Noailles third sets him up nicely for Monday’s contest, while Rashford will need to improve in order to turn the tables on the Irish raider who had his measure three weeks ago.

Fabrice Chappet, who has won this race twice in the last three years, will be represented by Zalamo and the very promising Fortune.
