Erevann, Ramatuelle headline hot Chantilly card

Ramatuelle on track for a second Group success in Prix Robert Papin

The final Chantilly summer meeting takes place on Sunday with no fewer than three Group races on the card, the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin, for the juvenile generation, and the Gr.3 Prix Chloé and Prix Messidor.

Highlight of the day, unsurprisingly, is the Robert Papin which will see Christopher Head’s Ramatuelle back at the historic venue. Facile winner of the Gr.3 Prix du Bois here last month, her handler would be forgiven for wondering if he had another Blue Rose Cen on his hands. Beaten just once in three starts, Ramatuelle is undeniably a filly of significant potential. She will be up against just four others. Classic Flower races for the first time in the colours of the Haras de la Goussserie who recently acquired 50%. Recent Deauville Listed winner Myconian, and well-regarded Ballydole-trained His Majesty, make up the foreign contingent. Balsam, who failed to fire at Ascot, should be more competitive this time around.

The Prix Chloé, for 3 year-old fillies, has drawn a bigger field, with recent Longchamp Listed winner, Immensitude, guaranteed significant attention. Quantanamera, trained in Germany, and Sea The Lady, based in Deauville, represent the main opposition, and this pair may yet meet again in the German Oaks on 6 August. The addition of two other foreign runners, Araminta, trained by Henry Candy in the UK, and Estrosa from Endo Botti’s yard in Italy, will add spice to the 1800m event.

The Prix Messidor, for 3 year-olds and up, run over a mile, sees the return of Erevann who will be out to make up for a lacklustre Prix d’Ispahan run. On paper, he looks the horse to beat, but Top Gear and Fast Raaj will not be sitting idly by. Neither Ancient Rome nor Markus Münch's Reshabar are to be ignored either.
