Prix Jean Riaud winner Ganay De Banville
A fortnight out from the magnificent Champions’ Day, staged at Vincennes on 23 June, this Saturday’s card features no fewer than four Gr.2 events: Prix Chambon P, Prix Jules Thibault, Prix Guy le Gonidec, and Prix Jean le Gonidec. With five valuable and prestigious Gr.1’s on offer in two weeks’ time, we can expect a significant crossover of runners.
The Prix Chambon P, restricted to older horses, has gathered the main protagonists from the Prix Kerjacques, Jean Riaud, and Caen’s Ducs de Normandie. In fact, facile Jean Riaud winner, Ganay de Banville, will be getting reacquainted with Hokkaido Jiel, Elvis du Vallon, and Eric The Eel.
Before meeting again in Gr.3 Prix Raymond Fouard in a fortnight’s time, 4 year-old colts and fillies will compete respectively in the Prix Jules Thibault and Prix Guy Le Gonidec. Among the colts, Koctel du Dain is bidding for a fourth consecutive victory, up against the likes of Krack Time Atout, Keenan de Joudes, King Opera, and Kristal Josselyn. Kana de Beylev, who makes a first appearance since her superb Prix de Sélection performance, leads the fillies’ charge. Stablemate Kyrielle similarly makes her first start back, while Jean-Michel Bazire will be intent on putting things right following Kracovia’s recent blunder.
The Prix Jean le Gonidec showcases the best 5 year-old’s and, second in the Gr.2 Prix Albert Demarcq, Jiosco de Phyt's will have an excellent opportunity to bag himself a first group race. He still faces opposition in the form of Just A Gigolo, who disappointed in the Sweden Cup, Just Love You and Jack Tonic. Spare a thought for Jasper Des Charmes who is first-time barefoot, with his handler reining.
