Kyt Kat to confirm generational supremacy

Kyt Kat the one to beat in Saturday's Saint Leger des Trotteurs

Frequently easy pickings for Philippe Allaire’s 3 year-olds, other handlers will be delighted by their absence on Saturday for the 2450m, Gr.1 Saint-Léger des Trotteurs at Caen. A tough test, it has nevertheless attracted 16 top-tier colts and fillies.

Winner of five in a row, culminating in the Gr.1 Prix d’EssaiKyt Kat was by no means disgraced on his re-entry in the Prix Basly. He will have come on for the run and, considering how commanding he was in the Prix Pierre Gamare over course and distance during the spring, he will take some beating. Runner-up to him in the Prix d’Essai, on his monté debut no less, Krafen has had his comeback freshener and, with pads fitted for the occasion, looks the main threat.

Kelly De Banville has enjoyed something of a renaissance since switching codes and, although untested at this level, she has yet to meet genuine opposition and the 4-timer is not out of the question. Kaleda Gema has demonstrated decent aptitude for the discipline and, after a much-needed holiday, she will be fitted with 4 pads for the first time and being reunited with Benjamin Rochard will do her prospects no disservice.

Already a Gr.2 winner earlier in the year, Kandora Bella showed great doggedness to finish two spots ahead of Kyt Kat in the Prix de Basly and is unlikely to go home empty-handed. Kyrielle Des Vaux was out of sorts in the Prix d’Essai but has since been rested and, although a Vincennes Gr.2 winner, regular rider Mathieu Mottier is on the favourite and she is unlikely to be regarded a priority.

With Eric Raffin in the saddle, Kapalua De L’Epine, is worth monitoring, as is the inexperienced, but progressive Kenidille.
