Udayama and Anna Mix win in the stewards’ room

02 February 2015

Sunday turned out to be quite eventful at Vincennes with the stewards being particularly active. In the Group 3 Prix de Rouen, Swedish raider Indigious, trained by Stig Johansson, took advantage of a great trip behind odds-on favourite Anna Mix (Frank Nivard up) to land the spoils close home at 5/1. But the stewards’ horn rang out immediately, and the 6yo son of Prodigious was found guilty of not trotting fluently in the final 250m.

Then an hour later in the Group 1 Prix de l'Ile-de-France, the home stretch was breathtaking as three very smart mares battled for victory. Roxane Griff finally came out on top, even if she had lost some ground in the straight when hanging badly right to finish on the wide outside along the grandstands, just like when winning the Cornulier two weeks previously. But the siren rang again, and the 6/10 winner was disqualified for having slightly gone offstride. The very popular Roxane Griff was therefore not to land the last Group 1 of her career under saddle, leaving victory to Loïc Groussard’s charge Udayama (photo), a 12/1 shot (Gaëtan Prat up).
