Triple Group Flavour on Vincennes Card

04 December 2015

As the Vincennes winter meeting gets into full swing, attention turns to Saturday’s card which incorporates a trio of interesting group races.

The Gr.II Prix Doynel de Saint-Quentin sees the return of Gr.1 Critérium des 5 ans winner Ave Avis who bids to reaffirm his dominance in this age group. Open to 5 year-old horses and mares, Jean-Michel Bazire’s charge faces ten others over 2850m on the long course.

Following his Gr.I victory the son of Kesaco Phedo disappointed twice before returning to win the Gr.II Prix Marcel Laurent last month. According to Bazire, “Ave Avis is working nicely and should do well over a distance he enjoys.”

BackfireRed Rose America and Africaine, 2nd, 3rd and 5th respectively last time, take on the challenge once again though Fabrice Souloy’s Gr.II Prix d’Eté winner, Lionel, appears the biggest threat.

Apprenti Sorcier tops the line-up for the Gr.II Prix Joseph Lafosse, a monté event over 2700m also for 5 year-olds. With a point to prove Mike Lenders’ inmate is out to show he can close the deal at group level, having finished runner-up in a Gr.II late spring and latterly the Gr.I Prix de Normandie.

He will be up against the able Astor Du Quenne who bettered him on both outings at the highest level, and Athena De Vandel who denied him victory last May.

The Gr.III Prix Vourasie for 2 year-old fillies has attracted a baker’s dozen and will be headed up by the exciting future prospects Dista Love and the Philippe Allaire-trained pair of Don’t Explain and Deep Purple.
