Muntjac broke his maiden in impressive style with a four-length victory at Cagnes-sur-Mer in the Prix de Menton (2000m). It was the colt’s third career start, having finished fourth at Lyon-la-Soie on debut before a second at Deauville in late November. He took the lead on the turn into the final straight and drew clear of the field with little encouragement required from jockey Cristian Demuro. Trainer, Jean-Claude Rouget, will be hoping that Muntjac is able to replicate or exceed the achievements of last year’s Prix de Menton winner Pretty Tiger. The colt won the 2020 renewal in similar style before recording victories in the Listed Prix François Mathet (2100m) and the G2 Prix Eugène Adam (2100m) at Saint-Cloud. Muntjac has an impressive pedigree. The three-year-old is out of Time Being, an un-raced full sister to Timepiece (G1 Falmouth Stakes (1600m)) and half-sister to multiple Group winners Passage of Time and Father Time. Sire, Kitten’s Joy, currently stands for $500,000 at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Kentucky, United States and has produced 102 individual Blacktype winners, including Cartier Horse of the Year Roaring Lion. |
