Kotkikova and Dos Santos dominate in Auteuil G3s

30 March 2015

Unbeaten over fences at Enghien last term, reappearing Kotkikova (Jean-Paul Gallorini) reappeared very impressively at Auteuil yesterday in the Prix Fleuret (Gr 3), leaving runner-up Groove 20 lengths behind. “She was simply head and shoulders above the others, she’s a future champion!” commented jockey Jacques Ricou. A half an hour later, Emmanuel Clayeux’s hurdler Dos Santos had no problem disposing of Saint Firmin in the Prix Hypothèse (Gr 3), whose jockey Bertrand Lestrade (photo) was wearing a protective face mask on his return to competition following a multiple-fracture face injury a month ago. English raider Kilcooley set the pace for most of the way before finishing a creditable 7th.

Kilcooley takes on the French in Hypothèse

27 March 2015

English raider Kilcooley will take on 8 French rivals in Sunday’s Prix Hypothèse at Auteuil (Gr 3, 3900m). The 6yo gelding is on the back of a decent hurdles win over 4,000 metres on heavy going at Fontwell Park last month and will obviously be “well-suited by the probable soft ground” according to his trainer Charlie Longsdon. The son of Stowaway is the Oxfordshire handler’s first runner in France. With a current rating of 160 pounds over The Channel, he is certainly worthy of taking on the likes of Jean-Paul Gallorini’s very smart 2014 French 4yo Champion Hurdle winner Hippomène and his stable mate Roll on Has who followed him home that day. Recent G3 runner-up Dos Santos looks a danger too.

Beckman surprises in an eventful Bois de Vincennes

24 March 2015

Fabrice Souloy’s Beckman ended up a fortunate winner of the Group 3 Prix de Bois de Vincennes on Saturday after an almost catastrophic incident in the final bend where Uprince (Damien Bonne) collided with Viking de Val. Driver Bonne was violently ejected from his sulky while his partner broke into an unstoppable gallop, causing havoc in the straight. Favourites Akim du Cap Vert and Aladin d’Ecajeul were particularly hampered and finally did well to finish respectively third and fourth. Meanwhile up front, Franck Nivard’s partner, 39/1 shot Beckman, was not involved, but the pilots had to stay alert as driverless Uprince flew upsides them on the inside near the line (photo). Talicia Bella, who also managed to stay out of trouble, took second spot.
