Full steam ahead Deauville!

The chic seaside resort of Deauville will be the backdrop to flat racing in August as racegoers and horsemen alike migrate up to the Normandy coast for the traditional month-long summer festival. With more than 300 horses in training throughout the year at the local training grounds, the figure doubles during August!

Jean-Philippe Mary’s yard is in Western France, near Durtal in the Maine-et-Loire. From a family of accomplished horsemen, he was France’s leading apprentice at 16 and, like his father, went on to land some of trotting’s big events under saddle as a jockey: 4 Prix du Président de la République, 3 Prix de Vincennes and Prix des Elites,etc.

Lionel scores first Group 2 win

As the punters expected, 4/5 favourite Lionel came out on top in Enghien’s marathon Prix de Buenos Aires (4,150m) on Saturday. It was the Norwegian-bred 5yo’s fifth win on French soil since arriving from Scandinavia and his first career Group 2 win.
