A fine line-up for Vincennes’ Prix Kerjacques (Gr 2, 2700m) on Friday evening, where last year’s winner Timoko stopped off before going on to bag the 2014 Elitloppet. So the awesome 12-time Group 1 winner has taken the same path again! Trainer Richard Westerink (photo) explained: “It’s not his prime target as that’s the Elitloppet, but we won’t stop him from winning, of course. We’re testing him with new shoes, with resin at the front and 10-gram irons behind.”

Both Jean-Paul Gallorini’s Kotkikova and Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé’s Bonito du Berlais (photo, Carroux up) extended their winning streak yesterday at Auteuil in fine style, easily dominating their rivals in the traditional 4yo pre-Group 1 spring preps by wide margins and thereby justifying their short odds-on favourite status. They now have asserted themselves more than ever as current best 4yo chaser and hurdler as they respectively await the final crowning ceremonies in May (Prix Dufaure, fences) and June (Prix Alain du Breil, hurdles).

A big day at Auteuil on Sunday 26th with three Group 2s and a Group 3 Race 4, the Prix Jean Stern, sees Jean-Paul Gallorini’s Kotkikova (photo) bidding for her 4th consecutive win as she gears up for next month’s Prix Dufaure which crowns the best 4yo chaser of the day. Then a half an hour later Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé’s Bonito du Berlais will be looking for his 8th win a row and further endorse his claims as best 4yo hurdler. And in race 7, Gallorini’s 2014 G1 scorers Roll On Has and Hippomène will be taking on Harry Fry’s Activial on his first French bid in the Prix Léon Rambaud, one of Auteuil’s French Champion hurdle preps run in June.
