A formality for Up And Quick!

23 February 2015

When Up And Quick took command a circuit from home in the 4,150 marathon Grand Prix de Paris Sunday at Vincennes, it seemed obvious the stamina-packed 7yo was going to be hard to dislodge. Driver Jean-Michel Bazire asked the 7/10 favourite to step up the pace 500m out and he came home unchallenged, bettering the race record he set last year to return a new top time of 1'13"5/km. He also became the first trotter in 38 years to match Bellino II’s back-to-back Amerique-Paris double. It was quite a day for trainer Franck Leblanc, as his second charge Anna Mix, sporting his own colours, provided him with a fine 1-2. Texas Charm produced a decent effort off the final bend to take third spot.

The €400,000 Grand Prix de Paris on Sunday 22nd is the final stage of the Triple Crown, and the penultimate Group 1 event of Vincennes’ enthralling Winter Festival. The challenging 4,150-metre marathon is the only Group 1 at Vincennes covering two complete circuits of the tough outside track.

Coquin Bébé lands an eventful Criterium des Jeunes

17 February 2015

Trainer Franck Leblanc and driver Jean-Michel Bazire bagged their second Group 1 of The Vincennes Winter Festival thanks to a motivated Coquin Bébé in yesterday’s Critérium des Jeunes, a race they had never won before. The 11/2 shot’s task was made much easier when even-money favourite Cristal Money broke at the start. The son of Rancho Gédé, who had been held up in his recent Group 2 clashes against the same rivals, adopted front running tactics this time and drew clear in the final bend, coming home unchallenged.
