Before the 2014 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, no thoroughbred had managed to successfully defend the Arc crown since Alleged in 1978, and no filly had scored back-to-back victories in the Great Race since Corrida in 1937.

Trotting As Vincennes’ spring meeting draws to a close and the summer season kicks in, Enghien racetrack will be the focus for trotting in the Paris region over the next 6 weeks. Amongst the 17 Group events on the programme, the flat 1,300-metre venue will be featuring the Prix de Washington on Saturday June 27th, a Group 2 over the mile, a distance that’s not greatly used here in France.

Spared by the hustle and bustle of Paris, France’s 2014 champion trainer Yannick-Alain Briand, or YAB as he’s familiarly known as, heads up a yard of 100 trotters at Fuveau in Provence, just North of Marseille. With 225 wins last season, he pulverised his own record of 210 victories set in 2013, which he shared jointly with Thierry Duvaldestin.
