Timoko bags 12th career Group 1

Richard Westerink’s Timoko made it 12 career Group 1s when capturing the Riviera’s Criterium de Vitesse over the mile at Cagnes yesterday. Driver Björn Goop skilfully avoided getting boxed in next to second favourite Une Fille d’Amour just after the start when Pascia’ Lest bolted off in front and took up the running coming into the first bend. The 7/10 favourite solidly took control along the sun-drenched seaboard down the back straight and came home a clear winner in 1’11’’3/km.

Cagnes, Sunday: Scandinavian chances

While Scandinavian-trained trotters will not be at the post for the Riviera’s big Group 1 on Sunday 8th at Cagnes, they will have three good chances elsewhere: Race 1: Svan Bathe’s 6yo mare Monas Invercote was a pleasant 3rd on her sole mounted bid at higher level and an impressive harness winner last time. She has a first rate chance back under saddle today.
