2015 Grand Prix de France: race preview

05 February 2015

The Grand Prix de France is all about speed! The second leg of the coveted Triple Crown comes a fortnight after the Prix d’Amérique. First run in 1956 with a volt start, it was not until 1979 that the mobile gate or autostart was implemented in this event. The runners are randomly allocated their draw with a maximum of 18 runners spread across 2 tiers – with the 9 richest on the first tier. Gates 2 to 5 are considered the best, although that didn’t stop Swedish raider Nora’s Bean (photo) in berth 1 from winning last year’s edition!

Snow cancels racing at Pau

Heavy snow falls have got the better of Pau’s 8-race flat and jumps programme today. The track is currently covered in a white blanket which has meant the ground is unsafe and impractical for racing.

Udayama and Anna Mix win in the stewards’ room

02 February 2015

Sunday turned out to be quite eventful at Vincennes with the stewards being particularly active. In the Group 3 Prix de Rouen, Swedish raider Indigious, trained by Stig Johansson, took advantage of a great trip behind odds-on favourite Anna Mix (Frank Nivard up) to land the spoils close home at 5/1. But the stewards’ horn rang out immediately, and the 6yo son of Prodigious was found guilty of not trotting fluently in the final 250m.
