O’Brien trio take on 11 of France’s best in Jockey Club

No British-trained entries feature this year in the Prix du Jockey Club on Sunday to defend The Grey Gatsby’s title, the 2014 winner trained by Yorkshire-based handler Kevin Ryan, but Aidan O'Brien will be sending over three of his charges for Ireland. He will have Prix Hocquart runner-up Cape Clear Island (Ryan Moore) and French 2000 Guineas 6th and 7th Highland Reel (Joseph O’Brien) and War Envoy (Casey O’Donoughe), quite astonishingly all drawn side-by-side in stalls 7, 9 and 8 respectively.

The Prix Corrida run at Saint-Cloud on Friday 29th has never drawn such interest since Criquette Head announced Trêve would be reappearing in the Group 2!

Wertheimer silks fly high at Longchamp

Odds-on favourites Queen’s Jewel (photo) and Solow landed both Longchamp’s Group 1s yesterday for the Wertheimer brothers and trainer Freddy Head. The unbeaten 3yo filly Queen’s Jewel broke the 2,000 metre track record in the Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary as she now heads for the Prix de Diane, then a half an hour later Solow asserted himself as Europe’s best gelding between 1,600 and 2,000 metres in the Prix d’Ispahan. Solow’s next target is the Queen Anne stakes at Royal Ascot.
