Major Upcoming Events
23 June 2015
As Vincennes’ spring meeting draws to a close and the summer season kicks in, Enghien racetrack will be the focus for trotting in the Paris region over the next 6 weeks. Amongst the 17 Group events on the programme, the flat 1,300-metre venue will be featuring the Prix de Washington on Saturday June 27th, a Group 2 over the mile, a distance that’s not greatly used here in France. Rapide Lebel’s 2012 track record of 1’09’’4/km is on the line again! Then just over a week later (July 7th), La Capelle racetrack in the North of France will host its equivalent showcase mile, the Prix de la Communauté de Communes Thiérache du Centre. Last year, Roi du Lupin dislodged Commander Crowe’s previous record by 2/10th of a second when beating Timoko and returning a time of 1'10"9.
Other notable provincial attractions over the next fortnight include the Grand Prix du Conseil Municipal, Vichy’s 3,525-metre Group 2 marathon on July 4th, not forgetting the kick-off to Cabourg’s 6-week summer meeting up on the Normandy coast on July 3rd, where 17 of the 18 racedays will all be evening meetings.
Saint-Cloud racetrack will be organising its biggest meeting of the year on Sunday, June 28th, spotlighting the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Trêve’s next target), one of three Group 1s run every year on the left-handed Parisian track. The same day, the Group 2 Prix de Malleret, disputed over an identical mile-and-a-half distance, will attract some smart 3yo fillies not having won a Group 1 this year.
Twenty-four hours later Chantilly will stage no less than three Group 3 events, with notably the Prix du Bois sprint over a straight 1,000 metres. It is the first Group race of the year in France for 2yos and a springboard to the Prix Robert Papin in July at Maisons-Laffitte. Also worth noting is the Deauville mini-meeting from July 1st to 3rd as an appetizer before its big international summer meeting in August.
