Ebonite and L’Autonomie Impress at Auteuil
18 May 2020
Jump racing enthusiasts enjoyed a top-class weekend of competitive racing at Auteuil with leading steeplechasers and hurdlers showcasing their talent.
On Saturday, Ebonite (E Clayeux) upset the favourite Figuero in the G2 Prix Murat Chase enhancing her credentials for the Grand Steeplechase de Paris with an impressive display of jumping. Behind her, Feu Follet and Carriacou are both expected to improve for the run and re-oppose at Auteuil on June 7. In the Prix Le De Mezaubran Listed Handicap Hurdle, James Du Berlais justified favouritism to win by seven lengths despite a high weight and looks ready to make the step up into Group company.
It was the turn of leading hurdler L’Autonomie on Sunday to take to the stage and she didn’t disappoint in the G2 Prix Leon Rambaud. The five-year-old mare was put under pressure by outsider El Gringo in the straight but soon took control of the race and secured victory by three lengths for trainer Francois Nicolle. L’Autonomie will be heading to the Grande Course de Haies d’Auteuil, set to take place alongside the Grand Steeplechase de Paris on June 7. It was to be a successful day for Francois Nicolle, who completed a treble with Kool Has and Pamela Des Mottes.
