Dallas Affair makes amends with La Coupe victory

10 June 2018

Main event on ParisLongchamp’s Sunday card was the Gr.3 La Coupe which brought together ten older horses for the 2000m (1¼m) event. After having won a brace of Listed races in 2017, Freddy Head’s Dallas Affair secured another at Toulouse late April before winning her maiden group yesterday - at the fourth time of asking.

Jockey Aurélien Lemaître held his filly back for the first half of the race and once they hit the open-stretch, he took her in towards the rail. Just 100m out he had the measure of Olivier Peslier and Syrita, accelerated when asked, and stayed on well to deny the fast-finishing Marathon Man by a comfortable three parts of a length.
This was Head’s second La Coupe victory as a trainer, having won it in 2013 with Slow Pace. His jockey, who had been criticised for his ride in the Prix Cléopâtre early April, was clearly relieved, “It was important to win this. As for my filly, she has developed really well as a four year-old. She sprinted with real class today.”
