Prix Jean Prat: Botti Bullish about Breizh prospects

Breizh Sky best of the home of team in Prix Jean Prat on Sunday

Recent winner of the Gr.3 Prix Paul de MoussacBreizh Sky will now line up in Sunday’s Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville. His handler, Alessandro Botti shares his thoughts on the colt’s chances and his future programme.

Breizh Sky returned to winning ways in the Prix Paul de Moussac at Longchamp. How do you assess the race?

The horse is in good physical shape and has recovered well. He grew in maturity with his last race. He won easily, and his jockey didn’t come close to showing him the whip.

Do you not think that there is more potential to exploit?

He was perhaps one of the best 2 year-olds of his generation. This year, he is almost beyond reproach. Furthermore, his performance in the Poule d’Essai is significant, particularly because we had to contend with the wait at the stalls (10th of ten).

How will you approach the Jean prat this weekend?

He knows Deauville well, having run second in the Prix Djebel during the spring. That day, he had a bad draw, and in the final stages, his bit fell out and he hung towards his rivals in the stretch.

This Sunday, we are facing a well-armed bunch. Of course, there are a number of foreign runners, but I think he is mature enough to compete and finish close. Whatever happens, it will be a good sporting moment and I hope he won’t let me down.

After the race, what is his programme?

If everything goes well, he will have a short break. We plan to run him in the Prix de la Fôret in the autumn, before a possible tilt at the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November. I think that Breizh Sky has enough speed to play an important role in that event.”
