Berjou hunting for third Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice success

Just eight days out from the Cagnes-sur-Mer winter flat meeting, the curtain sadly falls this Sunday for the Riviera jumpers, however the programme the track is set to stage includes a valuable G.3 chase and a trio of Listeds.

Restricted to chasers from 5 and up, the prized Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice has gathered numerous course specialists, some of which were in action in the Prix du Comté de Nice, the final prep, run on Christmas Eve. Respectively first and second, Golden Park and Missed Cue were separated by just a head. Fourth- and fifth-placed, Marvel De Cerisy and Sternkranz, have since been supplemented. Another worth keeping an eye on is recent Cagnes winner, Berjou, who lifted the coveted trophy in both 2020 and 2021.

A hurdles affair, also for 5 and up, the Listed Grande Course de Haies de Cagnes, features the remarkably consistent Le Chiffre D’Or who latterly won here by 20L and, Jigstar Pam. Winner here on Wednesday, Edinson has been supplemented. Recent Listed winner, Le Roi David, and Nyiri, are also in with a shout.

For 4 year-old hurdlers, the Prix André Masséna provides another opportunity for us to see Mathieu Pitart’s unbeaten Karthage in action as he bids to keep his hurdling status intact. Below-par that day after having romped home on his Cagnes debut, Brooks is due redemption. Kaprilia and Prestige D’Olva are possible spoilers.

The Prix Christian de L’Hermite 4 year-old chase is an open affair, and there is little separating the principal protagonists. Respectively 1-2-3 in the Prix André Adèle three weeks ago, Worth A TeamKassel Allen, and Advice finished within 3.25 lengths of each other. Recent Cagnes chase winners, Yutu and Kroupade are not to be underestimated.
